According to a report in the Daily Star, Leicester City will demand £30m for Arsenal target Riyad Mahrez should the attacker reject an improved contract worth £100,000-a-week.
Mahrez was one of Leicester’s star players last season with his 17 goals and 10 assists helping to fire them to an unlikely Premier League title which landed him the PFA Player of the Year award.

Arsenal have been strongly linked with a move for the 25-year-old in recent weeks with Sky Sports Italia journalist Tancredi Palmeri claiming last week that we’d tabled an opening £25m offer.
The likes of Manchester United and Barcelona have also been credited with an interest and this led to Mahrez admitting that he was flattered to be linked with such clubs and refused to rule out a move.
When asked about reported interest from Arsenal, United and Barca, Mahrez is quoted by the Mirror as saying:
“It is flattering to hear, as I said nothing is agreed, nothing is done,”
“We will see… For the moment I have not made a decision. We will see. It is possible that I stay, it is possible that I leave. We will see.”
It looks like Leicester have acted swiftly to try and persuade Mahrez to snub interest from the likes of Arsenal and remain at the King Power as the Daily Star are reporting that the Foxes have offered him a new deal worth £100,000-a-week.
Should the Algerian international turn it down, the newspaper suggests that Leicester will reluctantly sell. However, it looks like we’ll have to dig a little deeper if we want to land Mahrez as it’s reported that the champions will demand £30m for his signature.
Fair play to Leicester for trying there best to keep hold of him, and it might work, but I have a feeling Mahrez will leave this summer. He’ll be able to get at least £100,000-a-week at Arsenal or United so I think we’ll see him move later in the window if a club is willing to meet their reported £30m asking price.
That’s just £5m more than we’re believed to have offered and let’s be honest, Mahrez is worth £30m in today’s over-inflated transfer market, and I hope we’re willing to go that extra mile to land him as he’d be a superb addition.
If we can sign Mahrez, I think we’ll see Theo Walcott leave as he lost his place in Wenger’s team last season and the Algerian will just push him further down the pecking order.

Arsenal transfer news and rumours: Gunners to turn to Edinson Cavani if Jamie Vardy rejects transfer?

Arsenal transfer news and rumours: Gunners to turn to Edinson Cavani if Jamie Vardy rejects transfer?

Edinson Cavani could be on his way to Arsenal
Arsene Wenger is set to make Paris Saint-Germain's Edinson Cavani his number one striker target if Jamie Vardy decides against a move to the Emirates.
The Daily Express say Cavani will leave PSG this summer and is interested in a move to the Premier League.
The Uruguayan has been frequently linked with a move to Arsenal in the past but a concrete bid has never materialised.
Cavani, 29, scored 25 goals in 52 appearances for Laurent Blanc's side this season.

Morata coy on future

Spain striker Alvaro Morata has refused to comment on his club future until after the Euros.
The Juventus man has been linked with potential moves to Manchester United and Arsenal but he is currently fully focused on playing well for his country in France.

Morata is facing an uncertain future at Juventus
"I'm relaxed because I am under contract with Juve and I feel very at home there. I am a Juve player until someone says otherwise," he said.
"This tournament is important for me, and also for my team mates. It's a dream to be here and that's why I've been able to clear my mind and think only about the Euros."

Parlour: Vardy appears to have made a U-turn

Ray Parlour has claimed Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy pulled the plug on a move to Arsenal after a dramatic change of heart, writes Matt Lewis.
The Foxes goal-machine looked to be on his way to the Emirates after Arsene Wenger met a £20million release clause in the striker’s contract, but the deal then appeared to stall as Vardy jetted off to Euro 2016 with the England squad as his future hung in the balance.

Ray Parlour doesn't think Jamie Vardy will end up joining Arsenal
And former Gunners midfielder Parlour believes the club’s chances of snaring the forward have now evaporated after the Leicester hitman made a U-turn.
“It looks like it isn’t happening now," Parlour told talkSPORT. "I was at the Arsenal the other day and there were big reports flying around, and the club’s cameramen and digital staff had to get down to the training ground.
"So it looked like it was going to happen - there was a medical being done. But it seems Vardy thought about it while on England duty, and suddenly there was a U-turn."

Giroud defended by France teammate

Patrice Evra has mounted a staunch defence of much-maligned France star Olivier Giroud, writes Jack Lang.
The striker remains a divisive figure, both among Arsenal fans and those following Les Bleus at Euro 2016 this summer, many of whom feel that he lacks the killer instinct required to fire a side to major honours.
Giroud is Didier Deschamps' first choice in attack, but largely by default, having stepped into the starting XI in the wake of Karim Benzema's off-field travails.

The 29-year-old was booed by France fans during a pre-tournament friendly against Cameroon and there were groans at the Stade de France when he spurned three presentable opportunities to open the scoring against Romania.
But Giroud did eventually find the net with a towering header, meaning he has now scored eight goals in his last eight games for Les Bleus – a record Evra believes France fans should respect.
"Unfortunately, people compare him a lot to others," said Evra after Friday's victory. "But he is there to score goals. That's what I tell him: concentrate on what you know.
"It's he who unblocked the match for us. We're really behind him.
"When I hear people whistling Olivier, it's like they are whistling me as well. We are very united, so when they do that, they are whistling the whole France side."

HE IS THE MAN ARSENAL NEEDS....

Has Rodriguez shown he'd be an upgrade at left-back for Arsenal in Switzerland win?
Ricardo Rodriguez got off to a winning start for Switzerland at Euro 2016, following weeks of speculation linking him with a transfer to Arsenal.
The Wolfsburg left-back played 90 minutes for his national side as they overcame ten-man Albania in their first game of Group A.
And if he’s got winning a big move in the back of his mind at this tournament, he’s done himself no harm this afternoon.
Here’s our scout report on Rodriguez from his first game at the Euros…

What he did well

While it wasn’t the most convincing performance all round from the Swiss, it’s easy to see why Rodriguez is so highly rated. Left-backs don’t often stand out in matches unless they’re something special, but the 23-year-old really caught the eye.

It was a bright start from Rodriguez, as his superb wing play helped set up the opening goal in the first five minutes. Showing great touch and skill to beat his opposite full-back, the wide-man got a cross in that eventually led to a corner.
As a result, Xherdan Shaqiri then set up Fabian Schar for the opener. And while 1-0 against Albania is far from the most impressive scoreline, it proved to be enough for a crucial three points.
Rodriguez continued to show himself to be a threat going forward throughout the game. And unlike many attack-minded full-backs, his game isn’t just about pace and crossing on the overlap – he likes to drift centrally, showing great composure and awareness to create chances that his team-mates couldn’t take on the day.

What he did badly

Of course, for one so inclined to bomb forward, Rodriguez is not without his faults, and he did seem a little too advanced on more than one occasion, with many of Albania’s most dangerous attacks coming on his side.
He was also lucky to get away without a card for a rash challenge in the first half, charging into a player in the opponent’s half when there was little to no danger. While many Arsenal fans would love players with more battling qualities, he might need to keep his cool a bit more if he is to become the elite full-back he’s capable of being.

What the future holds

Rodriguez himself has said it’s ‘unrealistic’ that he’ll still be at Wolfsburg next season, but where could he end up?

Arsenal have reportedly shown the strongest interest in the defender, but he has previously caught the eye of other top clubs such as Manchester United and Real Madrid.
Although Kieran Gibbs is likely to be leaving, it remains to be seen if Arsenal would really pay big money to sign a left-back when they already have the highly dependable Nacho Monreal as first choice in that position.
Still, it has been revealed that Rodriguez has a release clause in his contract, thought to be worth around £18million or £20million, depending on the source. In the modern game, that’s not too bad for such a proven player, and Arsenal would be wise to show that bit of ambition to push the deal through.
The Gunners will just have to hope the likes of United and Real Madrid don’t also decide they need a big-name signing at left-back as well this summer.

Arsenal want £15m from Roma for Wojciech Szczesny, according to reports in Italy

Arsenal want a fee of £15m for Wojciech Szczesny , according to Gazzetta dello Sport
Arsenal have told Roma they must pay £15m to sign goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny on a permanent deal, according to reports in Italy.

The Poland goalkeeper has spent the past season on loan at the Serie A club and performed well, making 42 appearances and keeping nine clean sheets.

Szczesny has admitted he would be open to remaining at Roma next season, while Arsenal are also happy to extend his stay there for another year before bringing him back to the Emirates in the 2017/18 campaign.
But, according to Gazzetta dello Sport, Roma are interested in signing Szczesny only on a permanent deal and it is understood the club have been put off by the Gunners' asking price.
Internacional goalkeeper Alisson is also reportedly being monitored by Roma
Roma are willing to negotiate a lower offer with Arsenal, thought to be around £10m.
But if the two clubs fail to reach an agreement, the Italians will switch their attentions to signing Brazilian goalkeeper Alisson from Internacional.

Mesut Ozil to discuss new Arsenal deal after Euro 2016

Mesut Ozil will discuss a new Arsenal deal after Euro 2016
Mesut Ozil is happy at Arsenal and will discuss a new contract with the club after Euro 2016.

Newspaper reports on Thursday suggested Ozil had delayed talks with the Gunners.
The midfielder has two years left on his contract and sources close to the player insist he is happy at the club and not looking for a move away.

Sky Sports News HQ understands the Germany international and the club had always intended to negotiate a new deal after the conclusion of Euro 2016, and not before.
While in Dubai last week, Ozil said: "I still have two years contract with Arsenal, as you know, and we will be in talks with the club and we'll see what happens in the future.
"But as I said, now I'm concentrating on Euro 2016 in France, which is very important for me and my team after the last World Cup. Then later on, I will see what I do with Arsenal."

The Gunners are favourites to land attacker who is set to leave his German club because they refuse to include a release clause in any new deal

Arsenal have been given a huge boost in their chase for Henrikh Mkhitaryan with Borussia Dortmund set to admit defeat in their fight to keep him.
The German club have failed to persuade the 27-year-old Armenian to sign a new deal.
He has flatly refused to commit himself without a release clause being included in any fresh contract.
Dortmund no longer allow players to include such fees in their deals after Germany forward Mario Gotze’s was triggered by their big rivals Bayern Munich three years ago.

It means the German Cup finalists are now ready to sell Mkhitaryan, who has just a year left on his contract.
Spurs and Chelsea are also interested in the attacker, who scored 18 goals in all competitions this season.
But he has indicated a willingness to move to the Emirates, where Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is embarking on an overhaul of his squad.
Wenger has already signed Granit Xhaka from Dortmund's Bundesliga rivals Borussia Monchengladbach for £30m and is aiming to land Leicester striker’s Jamie Vardy, having triggered the England international’s £22m release clause.

Liverpool FC transfer rumours: Goal machine Higuain set to hand Reds big boost

Argentinian goal machine Gonzalo Higuain could be about to hand Liverpool a massive boost by offering the Reds the chance to make him the major signing of Jurgen Klopp's first summer in charge at Anfield.
According to the Mirror, the prolific Napoli striker, who averaged better than a goal a game last season by plundering 36 times in 35 Serie A matches, is interested in joining Liverpool as he looks to force an exit from his Italian club.
The 28-year-old hot shot led Napoli to runners-up spot this year behind champions Juventus but is willing to turn down offers from clubs in the Champions League and Europa League to join Klopp's Anfield revolution.
A successful capture of Higuain would represent a massive coup for the Reds with Jose Mourinho supposedly having identified him as one of his top targets at arch rivals Manchester United while Arsenal are also an interested party.

Klopp could be planning a major overhaul of Liverpool's attack this summer with £32.5million flop Christian Benteke out of favour and question marks over Daniel Sturridge's future with concerns over how the talented but physically fragile frontman fits into the German's hard-pressing style.
Higuain, who was born in Brest, France, the son of Argentine footballer Jorge Higuain, started his career with River Plate before netting 121 times in 264 games for Real Madrid.
As Klopp looks to reshape his forward line, Southampton are ready to offer Shane Long a bumper new contract in an attempt to ward off interest from Anfield.
The hard-working Long is a typical 'Klopp striker' and the Daily Star say the Reds boss tried to take him from St Mary's back in January.

The Republic of Ireland man is in high demand after hitting double figures in the Premier League for the first time and Tottenham Hotspur have also been keeping tabs on his progress.
Long, 29, was one of Ronald Koeman's first signings, joining the Saints from Hull City in an £11million deal and still has two years remaining on his current deal.
Meanwhile, according to Goal, Liverpool will go all out to sign Borussia Moenchengladbach midfielder Mahmoud Dahoud this summer.
Klopp has identified the 20-year-old as the perfect player to bolster his options in the Reds engine room with Dahoud described as “a box-to-box dynamo with a supreme work rate and expert range of passing.”

The Syrian-born Germany Under-21 international scored four goals and made seven assists in 37 games last season and Liverpool would face stiff competition for his signature from both Tottenham Hotspur and Klopp's former club Borussia Dortmund.
Dahoud could cost in the region of £25million and 'Gladbach sporting director Max Eberl recently said of him: “Mahmoud is an exceptional player and we have no need to sell.”

Is Aymeric Laporte the answer to Man City's defensive issues?

Pep Guardiola is an admirer of Athletic Bilbao defender Aymeric Laporte
Pep Guardiola's Manchester City revolution is under way but is Athletic Bilbao's Aymeric Laporte the answer to their defensive woes? The French defender looks a good fit, writes Nick Wright.

Pep Guardiola counts Argentine manager Marcelo Bielsa as one of his biggest influences, so perhaps it is not surprising that he shares his idol's admiration for Aymeric Laporte. The French centre-back was schooled by Bielsa as a teenager at Athletic Bilbao, and Guardiola is eager to continue his education at Manchester City next season.
The new City boss has already made his first signing in midfielder Ilkay Gundogan - and another Borussia Dortmund player, striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, could soon follow, according to Sky sources - but Guardiola has identified central defence as City's most pressing area in need of attention.
Last season, they conceded more Premier League goals (41) than in any of the previous five, with Nicolas Otamendi and Eliaquim Mangala struggling to meet expectations and Vincent Kompany repeatedly falling victim to injuries.
Major changes are required, and while Sky sources say Everton's John Stones is also on the wanted list, Laporte appears to be the priority for Guardiola. City's sporting director Txiki Bergiristain has already flown to Bilbao to discuss the deal with Athletic, and reports in Spain have suggested City are willing to pay his £39m buy-out clause.
It is a huge sum for a 21-year-old still recovering from a broken leg suffered playing for France's U21s in March, but he is due to return in August and the feeling in Spain is that he is worth the investment. Laporte has developed a burgeoning reputation over the course of four seasons in Athletic's first team and has already amassed over 100 La Liga appearances despite his tender age.
Basque journalist Endika Río has followed his progress from the start. "He is a central defender with the profile that Pep Guardiola likes," he tells Sky Sports. "He's strong, tall and powerful but what characterises him most is playing out from the back. He makes the central midfielders' jobs easier. He has good distribution and he has quality with the ball at his feet."

That technical ability is invaluable to Guardiola, whose attacking philosophy requires modern, ball-playing centre-backs who can build quickly and fluently from the back. The role was fulfilled by Gerard Pique at Barcelona and David Alaba at Bayern Munich, and Laporte, it seems, will be the man for the job at Manchester City.
A money-spinning transfer to the Etihad would cap a rapid rise for Laporte, who was only 18 when Bielsa promoted him to Athletic Bilbao's first team in November 2012. "It was quite a difficult year for Athletic," recalls Río. "Javi Martinez had left and they were having trouble renewing Fernando Amorebieta's contract, so Bielsa promoted Laporte even though he had hardly played for the reserves."
Laporte was thrust into the heart of a struggling side, but the 6ft 2ins teenager swiftly established himself as a regular starter in central defence. "Bielsa saw characteristics in him that fit with his style of football," says Río. "He soon filled the gap left by Amorebieta. He was a boom."
Bielsa loved Laporte - "I don't remember a single fault I could tell you about," he said in 2015 - and he made 17 appearances before the 60-year-old was replaced by Ernesto Valverde in the summer of 2013. Bielsa's gruelling training methods had taken a heavy toll as Athletic finished 12th in 2012/13 but the squad were reinvigorated by Valverde. Laporte, in particular, went from strength to strength.

"Laporte's second year in the first team was Valverde's first in charge," says Río. "The team finished fourth in La Liga and qualified for the Champions League. Laporte was part of the spine of the team and became the líder of the defence. He was still 19 but no one disputed it despite his age. Bit by bit, he has improved a lot in very little time."
Laporte has come out on top in duels with the likes of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo since breaking into the Athletic team. He helped them reach the final of last year's Copa del Rey and played every minute of their historic 5-1 aggregate win over Barcelona in the Spanish Super Cup in August.
"Laporte is a great player with every quality. I don’t remember a single fault that I could tell you about. He’s fast, he has character, he is competitive, he has very good technique and he is very intelligent."
Marcelo Bielsa on Aymeric Laporte in 2015
Laporte is an accomplished one-on-one defender who doesn't shy away from physical challenges, but he prefers to rely on his fine reading of the game and intelligent positioning rather than gung-ho tackling. He has an excellent range of passing and averages more per game than any other Athletic player with the exception of central midfielder Beñat, while he is also a goal threat, having scored five times this season alone before he was injured in March.
As for weaknesses, there is little to cause alarm. "In some games you can still see his youth and inexperience," says Río. "There have been some errors and he has been sent off for inexperienced fouls, but with time he has got better. You can see that he learns very fast for a player so young, and it's not surprising that some of the biggest clubs in Europe want him."
Laporte in action for Athletic Bilbao against Espanyol
Like Bielsa before him, Valverde is a huge admirer. "He's young and he has to improve some things but he's already the real deal," he said in October. "He is a player who is mature, despite his youth. On the pitch you see that because he takes responsibility for his position. Experience is always important, but if you already have that experience when you are 22, then imagine…"
Laporte's rare combination of technical ability, physical prowess and youthful experience has thrust him to the forefront of Manchester City's plans. Their defensive problems have been costly this season, but as they prepare to usher in a new era at the Etihad Stadium, Bielsa's pupil looks ready to make his next step up with Guardiola.
